He got his first electric guitar at the age of nine and started playing along with heroes like Van Halen, Europe and others.  In 1992 he switched to drums which helped him develop a keen rhythmic knowledge.  He switched back to guitar at sixteen and never looked back.

Matthew Wicklund

Matthew Wicklund is the Lead and Rhythm guitarist for the New Jersey based heavy metal band God Forbid as well as Seattle's Warrel Dane (Nevermore, Sanctuary) Solo albums. Before joining God Forbid in 2009, Matthew was the lead and rhythm guitarist for Seattle's thrash metal outfit HIMSA. Matthew began playing the guitar at the age of 12 and has had a driving passion for guitar andmusic in general ever since. After High School, he spent several years in college studying Music Theory and Digital Music where he broadened his palate mainly in the realm of Classical Music. In 2003, Wicklund began studying under his guitar idol and mentor Jeff Loomis of Nevermore that set his passion ablaze and pushed him to be the best he could be. Almost immediately after this, he began his career as a professional when joining HIMSA and has been busy touring the world and recording records ever since. Today he is working on completing the writing of the new God Forbid and Warrel Dane albums as well as starting a new and exciting rock project. You can always find him exploring and learning new methods and techniques and applying them to his melodic and driving compositions.
